In today’s digital age, internet connectivity has become a crucial aspect of running any business, especially restaurants. This article will discuss how to ensure a stable and fast internet connection in a restaurant setting, focusing on the challenges faced by a typical Italian restaurant group operating five branches across Hong Kong.

The Challenge

The restaurant group operates like a typical Hong Kong office building, with servers and various systems in place. It also caters to a mix of local and foreign staff who use different languages, making keyboard layouts a critical requirement. The group uses both cloud-based software and traditional desktop applications, which can sometimes lead to compatibility issues.

Furthermore, the management team is spread across different regions and countries, requiring remote access to certain software. This introduces another layer of complexity – security concerns. While the office building provides a secure environment with insurance-backed equipment, the restaurants are located in commercial areas where security measures may not be as robust.

The Solution

After extensive research and discussion with the client, we proposed two solutions. For the branch located in Admiralty, we suggested using a 5G commercial-grade internet service. This service, while similar to public Wi-Fi, offers a fixed IP address, which is essential for establishing an internal network or setting up firewalls. However, it does come with limitations such as slower speeds during peak hours.

For the branch in Central, we recommended applying for a dedicated line connection from the telecommunications provider. This would require additional investment for laying new cables and setting up the network, but once done, it would eliminate any worries about reaching the network.

IT Support Services

We also offered our IT support services to cover the operating hours of the restaurants. The restaurants operate from 9 AM to 10 PM, so our services needed to extend beyond regular business hours. We provided remote control services as the primary option but also had on-site support available for emergencies.

In conclusion, ensuring a stable and fast internet connection in a restaurant involves careful planning and consideration of the unique requirements of the business. By understanding the needs of the restaurant group and offering tailored solutions, we were able to provide a reliable and efficient IT infrastructure.
